Why High Street Aftershave Deals Beat Duty-Free

When it comes to aftershave, scent and price are everything.
And nothing beats cracking open a fresh bottle of holiday jollop before heading out for cocktails or a decent meal on holiday.
But here’s the thing…
Those duty-free impulse buys can cost you more than you think.
Skip the temptation and check prices on the high street or online instead. Chances are you’ll find the exact same fragrance £20–£30 cheaper.
That’s not penny-pinching.
That’s proper pound-saving behaviour.
Ready to sniff out some deals and find aftershaves that scream holiday mode activated?

Is Duty-Free Actually Cheaper for Aftershave?
Airport duty-free shops have a reputation for being cheaper.
But when it comes to aftershave and perfume, that isn’t always the case.
Duty-free prices are often based on recommended retail prices rather than the heavy discounts you’ll regularly find on the high street to lure you in.
Shops like Boots, Superdrug, The Perfume Shop and The Fragrance Shop frequently run promotions on fragrances, sometimes knocking £20–£30 off the exact same bottle you’ll see in the airport.
That’s why we tend to use duty-free more as a testing zone.
It’s perfect for trying different scents before committing to a bottle.
But when it comes to actually buying the aftershave?
Nine times out of ten, we’ll check prices online or on the high street first, because chances are there’s a deal running somewhere.
And when there is, it can easily beat the duty-free price.

How to Find the Best Fragrance & Aftershave Prices
If you want the best deals, a little bit of price-checking goes a long way. Good dates to look out for are seasonal changes and events such as Spring, Christmas etc.
Loyalty programmes at places like Boots and Superdrug can make a massive difference when buying fragrances. Also, always check Amazon.
Here are a few real examples.
I nearly bought Hugo Boss Magnetic in Boots for £65.
Then we walked into Superdrug next door.
They had a fragrance promotion running, plus a Hugo Boss discount.
Final price?
£45.90, as shown on the receipt image.
That’s nearly £30 cheaper than duty-free.
Not bad for popping next door.
A Real Example: The Deals We Just Grabbed
Perfect timing for this article…
We’ve literally just ordered two bottles of Hugo Boss ourselves.
Total price: £92.78 for both bottles.
And thanks to cashback, we’ll get £10 back through Prime, bringing the real cost down to £82.78.
That works out at roughly £41 per bottle, which is a serious saving compared to typical duty-free prices.
Not bad for about five minutes of deal-hunting.
This is exactly why we always check high street deals and the big sites before flying. More often than not, you’ll beat the airport price without even trying that hard.

Quick Tips for Cheaper Fragrance Shopping
• Join Boots Advantage Card and Superdrug Health & Beauty Card
• Check TopCashback before buying online (usually 4–8%)
• Look out for £10 off when spending £80+ promotions (These always pop up as shown above)
• Use Click & Collect for extra loyalty points
And seriously…
Always use cashback sites.
4% cashback on a £5,000 holiday is £200 back in your pocket. Not exactly small change.

Holiday Essentials You Can Buy Cheaper Before You Fly
Holiday shopping rarely stops at aftershave.
You’ll probably end up grabbing things like:
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray
- Hydration sachets
- Skincare
- Travel toiletries
These add up quickly, so loyalty points and multi-buy offers help soften the blow.
You’ll often see 3-for-2 deals, especially on travel essentials.
Errr… hello sunscreen savings.
Ordering online with Click & Collect also saves wandering around shops while still earning extra points.
Between us we already have £14 worth of Boots points waiting to be spent.
That’s basically half a round of airport pints.
You can also find some great deals on Amazon. The other day, we snagged three bottles of Nivea SPF50 for £15.40, which were going for £7+ each elsewhere.
Quick tip: sometimes the real discount doesn’t appear until you add the item to your basket, so it’s always worth checking before you buy.

Our Top Picks for Aftershaves That Scream ‘Holiday’
We’re not fragrance experts.
But we do know how to find them cheap.
Here are a few favourites that always bring holiday vibes.
Dolce & Gabbana – Pour Homme
A classic. Softer scent and perfect for relaxed evenings. Great if your nose is a bit sensitive.
Hugo Boss – Magnetic
My personal favourite. Fresh, subtle and not overpowering.
Hugo Boss – BOSS Bottled
Russ’s pick. Slightly sharper citrus edge.
Hugo Boss – Elixir
Richer and deeper. Smells a bit odd at first… give it 30 minutes.
Paco Rabanne – One Million
A staple if you prefer something stronger that lasts all night.
Have a poke around the duty-free on your next trip and try a few out if you haven’t already.

Smell Good, Feel Good, Drink Cocktails
That fresh aftershave feeling on holiday just hits differently.
You’ve showered after a day by the pool, you’re heading out for dinner, and suddenly everything smells like holiday mode.
Chuck in a couple of cocktails and life’s looking pretty good.

Final Thoughts
Checking a few retailers before buying aftershave can save a surprising amount of money.
Keep an eye on:
If I know what I want, I’ll simply Google something like:
“Hugo Boss Magnetic 100ml”
Then let the Shopping tab do the work. However, you will still need to poke about to see if there’s a deal on and not just go by the price on the tab.
But most of the time we stick with Boots, Superdrug & Amazon. You’ll usually find a deal between the three of them.
Their loyalty schemes, offers and click-and-collect options make them consistently some of the cheapest places to buy fragrances.
And no worrying about nEvri losing your parcel.
