Travel Insurance for Adventure Seekers
If you’re anything like us, sitting still isn’t really part of the plan.
One minute you’re by the pool… next minute you’re booking ATVs through the jungle or ziplining over it.

With Barclays Travel Pack, a lot of the activities you’d expect to pay extra for are already included.
We’re talking things like winter sports, water-based activities, and a decent range of “not just lying on a sunbed” experiences.

It’s very much a set it and forget it setup — which, let’s be honest, is exactly what most of us want when it comes to insurance.
Travel Pack vs Travel Pack Plus
So what’s the difference?
Honestly — not much.
The main upgrade with the Plus version is airport lounge access.
You get up to 6 free lounge visits per year, which sounds great… but there’s a catch.
If you’re travelling as a couple, that’s 3 visits total (since each person uses one).
So you’ll burn through them quicker than you think.
If you travel a few times a year and like starting your holiday with a drink and some food away from the chaos, then yeah — it can be worth it.
If not? The standard Travel Pack will do you just fine.
Pricing: as of April 2026 (price increase)
- Travel Pack: £17.50/month (6-month minimum)
- Travel Pack Plus: £26/month (6-month minimum)
One thing to keep in mind — lounge access isn’t always guaranteed unless you book ahead (usually around £5). Otherwise, it depends on availability on the day.
We’ve always been more in the “wing it and see what happens” camp… but that’s just us.
More About Airport Lounges with Travel Pack Plus
If you’re eyeing up the lounge access, here’s how it works.
Once you’ve got the Plus plan, you’ll use the DragonPass app to see which lounges are available at your airport.
Most lounges come with the usual perks — food, drinks, somewhere comfy to sit, and a bit of peace away from the airport chaos.
And let’s be honest… with airport prices these days, you don’t need many visits before you start getting your money’s worth.
Some lounges even let you swap your visit for things like restaurant vouchers or spa treatments — but that depends on the airport.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
- Lounge access isn’t always guaranteed unless you pre-book (usually around £5)
- Check if you already get lounge access through your holiday, hotel, or another card
- Each person = one visit (easy to forget when travelling as a couple)
For context, most airport lounges cost £30+ per person, so it can add up quickly if you’re paying out of pocket.
RAC Breakdown Cover
Both Travel Packs come with full RAC breakdown cover, including:
- Roadside assistance (UK & Europe)
- Towing
- At-home assistance
- Onward travel (replacement car, hotel, or alternative transport)
So whether you’re stuck on your driveway or halfway across Europe… you’re covered.
Now, for us personally — this one’s a bit wasted.
We already get free AA cover, so it’s not something we really use.
But if you don’t already have breakdown cover, this is actually a seriously good perk to have included.
It’s one of those things you don’t think about… until you really need it.
Just note — this doesn’t cover commercial vehicles.
How Does Barclays Travel Pack Compare with Other Travel Insurance?
We’ll be honest — this is where Barclays Travel Pack really stood out for us.
We spent a good half hour trawling comparison sites (and hating every second of it).
Endless tabs. Slightly different prices. Loads of “gotchas.”
From what we found:
- A single trip to somewhere like Mexico was coming in at around £55+
- Bump up the cover slightly, and you’re looking at £70–£80 for one trip
And the cover? Nothing special.
When we looked at annual policies, the cheapest decent option we found was around £148.
That’s when it clicked.
For roughly the same price — or not much more — Barclays Travel Pack gave us:
- Multi-trip cover
- Better overall protection
- Extra perks (breakdown, optional lounges, etc.)
- Monthly payments instead of one big hit
No brainer at the time.
That said… we’ve since switched to Monzo Max.
Not because Barclays fell short — it did exactly what we needed for years — but because Monzo now suits how we travel a bit better.
And that’s the key thing here.
It’s less about which one is best… and more about which one fits you.
Don’t Be That Person Who Skips Travel Insurance
We’re pretty laid-back when we travel.
Go with the flow, see what happens, grab a cocktail… job done.
But travel insurance?
That’s one thing we don’t mess about with.
It’s not just about what happens during your trip — it’s everything leading up to it as well.
Cancelled flights. Medical issues. Lost luggage. Broken phones. Delays.
It adds up fast.
And without insurance, you’re the one footing the bill.
We’ve all seen it — jump into a few holiday Facebook groups and you’ll spot the horror stories every week.
Trips cut short. Massive medical bills. People stuck abroad trying to sort things out.
All because they thought “it won’t happen to me.”
Look, chances are… you’ll never need it.
But if you do?
You’ll be very glad you sorted it.
Final Thoughts
For someone who hates admin as much as we do, Barclays Travel Pack was a bit of a gem.
We used it for a couple of years across multiple trips, and it did exactly what we wanted — simple, reliable cover without having to think about it every time we booked something.
No comparing policies.
No last-minute panic buys.
No wondering if we’d missed something.
Just sorted.
We’ve since moved over to Monzo Max, as it suits how we travel a bit better now — but that doesn’t take anything away from what Barclays offers.
If you want straightforward, no-fuss travel insurance with solid cover and a few useful extras, it’s still a great option.
Especially for couples or families who travel a few times a year.
At £17.50 a month, it’s one of those things you barely notice… until you actually need it.
And when you do — you’ll be glad it’s there.
